Q and A: Boudoir. Answers from a Niagara Photographer

It’s exciting.

It’s inviting.

And it can feel confusing and intimidating all at the same time.

If you’re thinking about a boudoir session, you probably have a few big questions floating around in your head. Totally normal. It’s not every day you’re hanging out half naked in front of a stranger with a camera.

So you have questions. I’ve got answers as a boudoir photograph in Niagara for 19 years.

Q: Boudoir. Pornography. What’s the difference?

A: Boudoir is suggestive and artistic. Porn is… well, you know. Boudoir does not require nudity and you never have to reveal anything you don’t want to. Sexy comes from confidence, not skin. If you feel amazing in jeans, wear jeans. If a men’s button down makes you feel flirty, go for it. Classy, playful, and totally you.

Q: Can you Photoshop my images?

A: If you want stretch marks softened, a scar minimized, or that tattoo you got at 16 magically erased, that is doable. If you want black and white or sepia, also doable. Just remember that photography is an art form. Please don’t ask for rainbow backgrounds, star borders, and inspirational moon quotes. That is what your phone apps are for.

Q: What type of woman books boudoir sessions?

A: All women. All shapes, sizes, ages, skin tones, and body types. Every woman deserves to feel powerful and beautiful.

Q: Are my photos going to end up on the internet?

A: Not unless you want them to. These images are far more intimate than your average portrait, so your privacy matters. I only use photos for advertising or portfolio purposes with your permission. If you want to keep everything private, that is completely okay.

Q: Do I have to be naked?

A: No. Not at all. Here’s a little secret. Confidence is the real showstopper. Confidence comes from being comfortable with who you are. If you want to wear a men’s dress shirt and panties, do it. If jeans and a bra feel right, rock it. Matching lingerie set? Yes please. Corset? Absolutely. Topless? If you want to. You do you, boo.

Q: Can I bring a friend or partner?

A: Yes, you absolutely can. Just keep in mind that sometimes having someone in the room can make you feel more nervous, especially if that person is a romantic or sexual partner. Boudoir sessions are not sexual acts or performances. They are about confidence, comfort, and celebrating yourself. Extra eyes in the room can sometimes make it harder to relax, so think about who truly helps you feel calm and supported before you decide.
